Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems (UK) Limited are supporting Inspired Living who are trying to not only raise a million pounds for Cancer Research UK but are also trying to collect valuable medical information on the ride which could help in reducing the risks associated with the development of cancer and cardiac related diseases.
The team set off from St Swithuns School, Winchester supported by an incredible mass ride made up of hundreds of other cyclists who followed the team for 33 miles to Victoria Park, Portsmouth. The long distance riders got a good send off and significant funds were also collected for Cancer Research UK.
The fund raising initiative sees the team travelling from the UK through France and Spain to arrive in Gibraltar after cycling for two weeks and covering a distance of over 1,250 miles; an average of between 60 to 100 miles per day! Knorr-Bremse support includes the provision and funding of a special Knorr-Bremse support vehicle and driver for the duration of the trip and special clothing for the cyclists. The vehicle, which also carries the logos of Inspired Living and Cancer Research as well as other supporters, including BT, will act as a multi-purpose support vehicle on the entire journey and will then travel back to the UK carrying all the successful riders’ bicycles. Knorr-Bremse are organising a supporting collection at their Melksham, Wiltshire facility and closely monitoring the progress of the riders.
Managing Director, Paul Goodhand commenting on the event said “The Inspired Living charity cycle ride to Gibraltar is a fantastic event that will not only raise vital funds but collect crucial research data in the fight against terrible diseases that affect so many people. Knorr-Bremse was approached by Inspired Living for support and we are currently running our own ‘Well at Work’ heath initiative for staff so were we pleased to get involved. Everyone here at Knorr-Bremse is fully behind this initiative and we wish every rider the best of luck on their epic journey.”
