Electronic Air Control (EAC1) - Cartridge Replacement

EAC1 Unit

Electronic Air Control (EAC1) - Cartridge Replacement

As part of its commitment towards continuous product improvement Knorr-Bremse started its original equipment supply to Volvo and Renault of the EAC (Electronic Air Control) unit in 2002.The EAC consists of an air dryer, a multi-circuit protection valve and an ECU to provide intelligent control of the air supply to the vehicle. To date Knorr-Bremse has supplied over 260,000 EAC1 Units.

Replacing the cartridge on an EAC1 Unit

The EAC monitors the volume of air which passes through the desiccant cartridge and when its preset limit is reached an in-cab service indicator will illuminate indicating that the cartridge needs to be changed (intelligent service). The replacement of the EAC cartridge needs to take place at the earliest convenient opportunity and the ECU service indicator must be reset.

There is a period of grace once the service indicator shows which relates to the additional number of litres of air that can be processed. If this volume is exceeded the EAC interfaces with the vehicle management system and will not allow the engine to start until the cartridge is changed and the service indicator reset. The resetting can be carried out using Knorr-Bremse’s NEO diagnostic system.

Replacing and EAC1 Unit:

It is necessary to extract the parameter settings from the ECU of the old unit and upload them to the new unit. To perform this procedure and the resetting of the service indicator it is important that the work is carried out by a fully trained person using the correct diagnostic equipment from either the vehicle manufacturer or Knorr-Bremse.

Where can your EAC1 be programmed (service indicator reset)?

In addition to the workshops of the vehicle manufacturers we have a number of independent service centres who are able to reset and programme EACs. For further information and your nearest service centre please visit our homepage at:
